Cypress Chargers Softball Dominates College of the Canyons in SoCal Regionals Opening Round

CYPRESS, CA - No. 2 Cypress Chargers softball (35-7) defeated No. 15 College of the Canyons Cougars (17-26) in the opening round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals. Hosting the series at their home ground, the Chargers displayed remarkable skill, holding the Cougars to only 2 runs throughout the series.

The series began with Canyons taking an early lead in the 1st inning, but Cypress quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, with Jaylene Duarte's groundout bringing in the tying run. The Chargers then took control in the 2nd inning, thanks to a clutch double from Julia Doan that drove in two runs.

Cypress continued to extend their lead in the 4th inning, capitalizing on Canyons' defensive miscues. Mikala Jacobsen and Kimberley MacPherson both scored on passed balls, while Doan added to her impressive performance with a stolen base that led to another run.

The Chargers sealed the victory in the 5th inning, with Nanea Kyle delivering a powerful inside-the-park home run that brought in two more runs. Kaitlyn Reynolds also contributed to the offensive effort with a sacrifice fly earlier in the game.

Game 2 saw Cypress continue their dominance, with standout performances from Julia Doan, Kaitlyn Reynolds, and Ashlynn Ortiz. Reynolds was particularly impressive, pitching a strong game and allowing only 1 hit while striking out 5. The Chargers' offense was firing on all cylinders as the team piled on runs in the 2nd inning.

The Chargers wrapped up the series with a 5 inning mercy shutout and will advance to the second round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals the weekend of May 10-11.
