Chargers Rally Past Dons for a Conference Win
CYPRESS, CA - The Chargers secured a thrilling 78-72 victory over the Santa Ana Dons in a conference showdown on Friday night.
Cypress got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 19-9 within the first five minutes of the game. However, they found their rhythm thanks to the sharpshooting of Peyton Guerrero and a clutch three-pointer by Jack Rivera with 3:59 left in the first half. This sparked an 8-2 run that allowed the Chargers to head into the locker room tied 40-40.
In the second half, the Chargers turned up the intensity on defense, fueling a 20-11 run that gave them their largest lead of the game at 60-51 with eight minutes remaining. The Dons clawed their way back, narrowing the deficit to 73-70 in the final minutes, but Cypress held firm. Key defensive stops and timely free throws in crunch time secured the victory for the Chargers.
Peyton Guerrero led the Chargers with an outstanding all-around performance, tallying 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Danny Patton also made a significant impact, contributing 16 points and 9 rebounds in the win.
