Cypress Chargers Men’s Basketball Team Ranked No. 20 in CCCMBCA South Regional Preseason Poll
Chargers Aim High with Seasoned Leaders and Talented Freshmen in Pursuit of a Strong 2024-25 Campaign
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers men's basketball team kicks off their 2024-25 season ranked No. 20 in the CCCMBCA South Regional Preseason Poll, under the guidance of Head Coach Drew Alhadeff, who marks his tenth season with the program. The Chargers have a balanced roster of returning sophomores and new freshmen eager to make their mark on the court.
Head Coach Alhadeff expressed his enthusiasm for this year's group, stating, "I am really excited about this year's team; we have a lot of talented guys who have been working hard in the gym. I like our enthusiasm and toughness. If we are able to rebound and shoot at a high level, I think we'll be a very tough team to beat."
Among the standouts this season are starting point guard Higgy Katoa, who serves as team captain and has shown strong leadership through fall training, and Peyton Guerrero, who brings experience and grit. Freshman Michael Wright, a Cypress High School graduate, has been a key addition, demonstrating versatility in both inside and outside play, while also contributing on defense and rebounding. Additional impact players include Jack Rivera, who is expected to provide much-needed scoring, and Vinnie Albertini, a transfer from Concordia University.
The Chargers open their season at home against Grossmont College on Saturday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m. Following their home opener, the Chargers will host a series of games before heading to Pasadena City College for their first tournament of the season. The team's non-conference play will wrap up with the Monterey Tournament, after which they'll face Santiago Canyon College away. The Chargers kick off the competitive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) on December 18, with a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
With a mix of seasoned and new talent, the Chargers are set to bring intensity and resilience to every game.
