CYPRESS, CA - In a thrilling start to their season, the Cypress Chargers men's basketball team stormed past Grossmont College, winning decisively with a score of 111-62 in their home opener. The Chargers showcased a balanced and efficient offense, shooting an impressive 55.4% from the field and a strong 82.6% from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Peyton Guerrero led the charge with a game-high 20 points, and his performance was capped by a thrilling dunk that ignited the crowd and energized the Chargers. Guerrero went 9-for-13 from the field, adding 5 assists and 3 rebounds to his stat line. Freshman Michael Wright followed closely with a solid 13-point contribution, going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and grabbing 8 rebounds to control the paint. Danny Patton also made a notable impact, scoring 13 points, including a three-pointer, and contributing 5 rebounds.

The Chargers' depth was on full display as the reserves poured in significant contributions. Amaan Zavahir came off the bench to score 13 points, hitting 5 of his 7 shots, while Jack Rivera added 10 points and 3 rebounds. Their performance underscored the Chargers' offensive depth, with the bench combining for 49 points.

Defensively, Cypress was relentless, totaling 14 steals and forcing multiple Grossmont turnovers. The Chargers also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Grossmont 42-17, which translated into numerous second-chance opportunities.

With this impressive opening victory, Cypress has set the tone for the season, signaling their potential to compete at a high level. They look to maintain this momentum in their next game as they hit the road to face LA Southwest.
