Volleyball Takes Care of Business Against Saddleback

Cypress – The women's volleyball team (13-2, 4-2 OEC) took care of business against Saddleback (2-9, 0-6 OEC) on Wednesday evening, defeating the Gauchos in three games (25-3, 25-16, 25-15).

 

Lindsay Ray led the team with 15 kills, while Makayla Taylor added 10. Ray and Nae Bender had a team-high 10 digs.

 

Saddleback scored the first point in game one, but it was all Cypress as the Chargers jumped out to a 7-2 lead, prompting the Gauchos to take a timeout. Cypress then went on a 8-1 run to lead 15-3 before another timeout by the visitors was called, but the Gauchos had no answer as the Chargers one game one 25-3.

 

Just like the first game, Saddleback scored first in game two, but Cypress jumped out to a 9-4 run before the Gauchos called timeout. The Chargers continued to lead and extended their lead to 15-8 when another timeout was called. Saddleback was able to score in the second game, but Cypress' lead was tough to cut into, and the Chargers won game two 25-16.

 

In the final set, Cypress led early, but Saddleback was able to tie the game at six. The Chargers then took control and outscored the Gauchos 19-9 down the stretch to win 25-15.

 

Next up, the Chargers will head to Orange Coast for a 6:00 pm match on Wednesday, Oct. 24. They then return home to face rival Fullerton on Halloween Friday at 7:00 pm.
