No. 5 Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season with Sweep of Santa Ana

Cypress – The fifth-ranked women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday evening with a three game sweep of the visiting Santa Ana Dons (25-18, 25-11, 25-11). The Chargers head into the playoffs 19-4 overall and 10-4 in OEC games. The Dons fall to 4-17 overall and 1-13 in conference.

 

Jasmine Covington led the team in kills with seven, while Makayla Taylor had a team-high 14 digs. Ave Mikaele added 13 digs, while Ray chipped in 12. Taylor also tallied three aces in the match.

 

Santa Ana scored first in set one, but it was all Cypress after that as the Chargers would lead by as many as seven to win 25-18.

 

In set two, the Dons again struck first, but Cypress would take control and lead by 13-6, prompting Santa Ana to call timeout. The Dons had no answer as Cypress led by as many as 14, with the eventual set point being score on a Mikaele ace. 

 

It was all Cypress in the final set as the team led by as many as 15 before winning 25-11.

 

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Chargers will now wait for the playoff seeding to be announced on Sunday. Cypress will most likely host the first round of the SoCal Regional, which will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
