CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team finished the regular season with an 18-5 overall record and 13-3 record in Orange Empire Conference play, which was good enough to finish second in the conference and earn a fourth seed in the 2017 CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. During the annual OEC coaches meeting on Thursday night, All-Conference selections were made for the 2017 season.

Cypress' Brianna Johnson and Penina Wilder received All-Orange Empire Conference First Team honors. Kayla Owens and Khamis Berneker were selected to the All-OEC Second Team.

Sophomore middle blocker and 2016 All-OEC Second Team selection, Brianna Johnson, made the jump to first team after another strong season with the Chargers. Johnson currently ranks fifth all-time in career kills per set at Cypress College (3.12), while leading the Chargers with 329 kills and 85 blocks. She notched more kills than anyone in the conference and ranked second in the OEC with a .387 hitting percentage.

Freshman setter Penina Wilder had a breakout season for the Chargers, leading the team with 473 assists. Wilder added 16 aces and 133 digs during the regular season. She finished second in the OEC, averaging a remarkable 9.27 assists per set.

Freshman outside hitters Kayla Owens and Khamis Berneker finished second and third on the Chargers with 241 kills and 195 kills, respectively. Both were asked to play the entire rotation this season, which has been crucial to the team's success.

The Lady Chargers will resume action in the opening round of the 2017 CCCAA SoCal Regional on Tuesday, November 21 at 6:00 pm. No. 4 Cypress will host No. 13 seed San Diego City College in Gym II.
