No. 13 Volleyball Finishes 2-1 at 32nd Annual San Diego Mesa Invitational

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team (4-2) finished 2-1 at the 32nd Annual San Diego Mesa Invitational over the weekend. The Chargers dropped their first match to Moorpark College, before picking up back-to-back wins over Mt. SAC and Pasadena City College.

Sophomore middle blocker Brianna Johnson led the way for the Chargers with 54 kills, 13 digs, and 11 blocks over the three game span, including a career high 23 kills in the victory over Mt. SAC. Freshman outside hitter Kayla Owens added 40 kills and 20 digs in tournament play.

The Chargers' tournament opening loss to the Raiders came in a five set thriller on Friday (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 12-25, 5-15). However, the Chargers bounced back to win the tournament's consolation championship with two wins on Saturday. Cypress defeated Mt. SAC for the second time this season in five sets (17-25, 25-17, 15-25, 25-17, 16-14) before knocking off Pasadena City College in four sets (18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22).

Women's volleyball will enter their final non-conference game at home on Wednesday night against Mt. SAC ranked No. 13 in the state. Cypress is set to open up Orange Empire Conference play on the road this Friday night against No. 2 ranked Irvine Valley College.
