Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Irvine Valley, 3-0

Cypress - The women’s soccer team posted its sixth straight shutout and eighth of the season, defeating Irvine Valley 3-0 in Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday afternoon.

Cypress - The women's soccer team posted its sixth straight shutout and eighth of the season, defeating Irvine Valley 3-0 in Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers improved to 8-0-3 (5-0-2 OEC), while IVC fell to 6-2-3 (3-2-2 OEC).

Cypress scored its first goal in the 17^th minute as a ball from Jenny Marin was headed in by Layla Silva through the IVC keeper's legs. Marin added a second assist in the 72^nd minute as she connected with Liz Gutierrez, who scored the second goal of the game after a diving IVC goalie could not knock it away. Marin capped off an excellent game in the 83^rd minute with a goal of her own, drilling a corner kick off the keeper's hands and into the top corner of the goal.

The Chargers will head to first-place Santiago Canyon (9-0-1, 3-0-1 OEC) on Friday for a pivotal conference match up. The game will be played at 3:00 pm.
