Chargers host Moorpark Raiders in first round

Cypress, CA - The 7th seeded Chargers are drawing Moorpark of the Western State North Conference. The Raiders finished third in the conference with a 5-5 and 17-12 overall. The Chargers defeated Moorpark 51-50 at the Antelope Valley Tourney for third place. The game feature two of the best centers in California JC.  Sloan Turner the OEC Player of the year and a first-team all state against 6'1" Riley Abraham (#24 in the picture) and first-team all Western State North Conference and a second-team all state. In that game, Turner scored 21 points and pulled down 19 boards, she also swatted the ball 8 times. Abraham scored 15 points, 13 boards and blocked 3 times.Sam Soria contributed 16 points and 7 boards while Jeana Magana added 13 points in the winning effort. The Raiders' Katie Lenik, a 5'11" post player added 11 points and 3 boards in that game.

Abraham averaged 15.9ppg (3rd in conference), 11.4rpg (2nd in conference) while shooting 53% from the floor (2nd in conference) and 2bpg. These numbers earned Abraham a first-team selection in the Conference and a legit big time D1 player. One would guessed that the reason that she did not win the POY award was due to Moorpark finishing third. Ventura which won the conference had no scoring or rebounding leaders the category of Abraham.

Moorpark is an unselfish team that respects the passing game. The five starters have strong assists numbers, PG Camilla Chun (94/4th in conference), Alison Dobner (77/6th), Gabrielle Root (69/7th), Torrey Hill (61/8th), Abraham (40/16th.)  Defense is Moorpark's strength, averaging 12spg and 4.4bpg while allowing opponents only 47.3ppg which is 6th in the state.

The Ventura Star beat writer Joe Curley reported in December that Moorpark's "Twin Towers" of Abraham and Lenik can be dangerous. The Raiders' coach Lindsey Goldblatt had high expectations from her team from a strong conference that sent five of the six teams to the Southern Regionals.
