Cypress Softball Claims Fifth Consecutive OEC Title

Cypress Softball Claims Fifth Consecutive OEC Title

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College softball team clinched the 2019 Orange Empire Conference Title outright in Thursday's 6-0 victory at home over Santa Ana College. The softball program has claimed the last five OEC Titles and 17 of the last 18. It is the 24th Conference Championship in program history, all coming under the leadership of Head Coach Brad Pickler. The victory moves No. 1 ranked Cypress to 32-6 overall and 18-1 in OEC play.

"I'm really happy for this year's team," said Pickler. "We have a lot of freshman playing key roles and positions on the field, but they find ways to get it done. We have performed really well in a tough league this season and I am really proud of how hard they work," he added.

The Lady Chargers clinched this year's title in impressive fashion, bouncing back from yesterday's loss to Riverside, as Eliza Sandoval (W, 13-1) tossed a complete game shutout, while the offense came up with a five-run inning in the third. Lesley Bojorquez (2-for-3, RBI) and Gabrielle Munoz (1-for-3, RBI) led the Cypress offense.

Cypress has just two regular season games remaining, both conference matchups, before entering postseason play where they have their sights set on a tenth CCCAA State Championship. "I am looking forward to competing in the playoffs with this group," said Pickler. "It's one of those years where really anybody can win it all, so we need to be playing at our best come playoff time."
