No. 2 Chargers Shutout No. 7 Tigers in Game One of CCCAA Super Regional, 9-0

CYPRESS, CA – The No. 2 seed Chargers (37-7, 20-1) made a statement in game one of their best-of-three CCCAA Super Regional Series against No. 7 seed Riverside City College (28-15, 13-8) on Friday. Cypress used a six-run second inning and lights-out pitching to defeat the Tigers via mercy rule, 9-0 (5 innings).

Freshman Eliza Sandoval (W, 17-1) tossed four shutout innings for the Chargers, allowing just one hit, while collecting two strikeouts. Sophomore Janea Brannen helped hold the Tigers scoreless for the game in one inning of relief.

The Chargers took control of the game in the bottom of the second inning, after loading the bases with one out. Mackenzie Cook (0-for-2, RBI) and Amanda Campos (0-for-2, RBI) each walked in the first two runs of the game. Infinity Laufou (3-for-3, 4RBI) followed that up with a 2 RBI single to left field, before Brannen (1-for-3, 2RBI) hammered a 2 RBI double to center field, giving Cypress a 6-0 lead.

Cypress would add three more insurance runs in the third and hold up on defense to complete the 5-inning shutout.

The Chargers return to action in game two of the series at home tomorrow at 12:00pm, followed by an if necessary game three at 2:00pm. All games will be broadcast live on SportsNetUSA.Net.
