No. 2 Chargers Cruise Past Rustlers, 11-3

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College softball team (12-1, 6-0 OEC) picked up their ninth straight win to remain unbeaten in Orange Empire Conference play with a victory over Golden West College (3-11, 0-6 OEC) on Tuesday. The No. 2 Chargers defeated the Rustlers in five innings via run-rule, 11-3.

Freshman Eliza Sandoval (W, 5-0) remained undefeated in the circle, tossing her third complete game of the season. Sandoval gave up just 3 runs on 3 hits, while collecting 7 strikeouts against the Rustlers.

The Chargers put runs on the board in each inning. A slew of walks setup a 2 RBI single from Gabrielle Munoz (2-for-2, 3RBI), followed by a Janea Brannen (2-for-3, RBI) RBI double to left field, to give Cypress a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

The Rustlers answered with a run in the second, before Munoz drove in another run in the second to make it a 4-1 game. However, Cypress put the game away, adding three runs in the third and another four in the fourth inning to go up 11-1.

Golden West challenged the Chargers, scoring two runs in the fifth, but Sandoval would retire the side to close out the game in five innings.

The Chargers will return to action at home tomorrow against Orange Coast College at 3:00pm.
