Five Chargers Make 2015 All- Conference Softball Team

The Cypress College softball team was able to capture their 20th Orange Empire Conference Championship this season and will compete in the Super Regional Tournament this coming weekend. The 2015 Chargers have a wide array of talent that is made apparent by what they have been able to achieve on the field. Freshman standout Taylor Pierce was named an OEC first teamer as well as OEC Pitcher of the Year. Pierce posted a 9-3 record in conference with a 2.01 ERA and 82 strikeouts while on the mound. Pierce is also currently eighth in the state for home runs with 12 on the season while batting .381 in conference play.

First team selections for the Chargers include Khailey Campos, Alejandra Guillen, and Tobi Salzman. Campos receives a first team selection for her second straight season after another great year. Campos batted .443 in conference with a .743 slugging percentage, 17 RBI, and four home runs. Guillen went 3-0 in conference play from the mound but did most of her work at first base for the Chargers. Guillen batted .435 in OEC play with 14 RBI and two home runs. Third baseman Tobi Salzman was one of the most consistent hitters for Cypress this year with a team leading .545 on base percentage, a .485 batting average, 21 RBI, and three home runs. Also, Chargers catcher Jezz Portillo was named to the All-Conference Second Team after her strong freshman season.

Head coach Brad Pickler adds yet another milestone to his resume this season after receiving his 16th Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year award. Coach Pickler and his staff were able to lead the Chargers to a 34-8 overall record and a conference winning 18-3 record in OEC play.
