Chargers Come Up Short at #1 Mt. SAC in Round 1 of SoCal Regionals

WALNUT, CA - Cypress men's soccer (9-7-5) watched their season come to a close on Saturday (11/20) when they were defeated by #1 Mt. SAC (15-2-2). The Chargers were able to sneak into the playoffs as the #16 seed, but they were knocked out in the first round of the CCCAA SoCal Regional playoffs for the second consecutive year. 

The Chargers had a succesful season in OEC competition where they finished in third place with a record of (5-4-3). Cypress was led this season by their two sophomore captains, Nomar Ibarra and Kian Aminloo, who were the heartbeat of the Cypress team. The Chargers had five All-OEC selections led by Aminloo and Ibarra who earned First-Team honors. Freshman midfielder, Alfonso Montano, was also selected to the First-Team after scoring a team-leading eight goals and also netting the lone goal for the Chargers in their playoff appearance. Freshman midfielder Julio Perez and defender Kyle O'Brien each earned their first All-OEC selection as they earned Second-Team honors. 

Cypress played in 21 games this season scoring 37 goals with 27 goals against. The Chargers finished the regular season strong as they went (3-0-2) in their final five conference games of the season. Cypress was fantastic on the road this season as they finished with a 6-2-2 record with 21 goals scored and 9 against. Coach Cristian Rus is excited for the future of his team as they look to build on their 2021 season. Coach Rus says, "We have a young team that began to play well with one another late in the season, and it was encouraging to watch how much they grew from August to November."
