Men's Soccer Runs Away with Season Opener, 3-1

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (1-0-0) opened up their season against San Diego Mesa (0-1-0) on Friday afternoon. Cypress kicked off their season with a 3-1 victory over the Olympians. 

The Chargers were in control for much of the first half as they possessed the ball in Mesa's territory. Cypress got off 13 shots in the first half compared to the Olympains two. The Chargers were threatening to score early in the game when they earned five corner kicks in the first 11 minutes. San Diego Mesa took advantage of the Cypress corner kicks in the 37th minute when they turned the final one of the half into a counter attack leading to a one on one battle with Cypress defender, Kian Aminloo. Aminloo caught the forward from behind awarding San Diego Mesa with a free kick from 25 yards out. Mesa forward, Enzo Cambruzzi, buried the free kick (39') to put the Olympians up, 1-0 going into the half.

The Chargers kept the offensive pressure alive in the second half when Raymond Ramirez sprinted down the right side and crossed a ball to midfielder, Alfonso Montano, who buried the shot to knot it up at one. The Chargers were on the attack again when forward, Gustavo Oleta, fired a shot that deflected wide. The Chargers were awarded a free kick in the 68th minute when Nomar Ibarra lined up from 25 yards out. Ibarra shot the ball over the defensive wall curling the ball in giving Cypress a 2-1 lead. Cypress added another goal in the 86th minute off of another cross from Raymond Ramirez where he found Seth Ponce coming down the left side. The Chargers coasted during the final five minutes winning the match, 3-1. 

UP NEXT: Cypress will continue non-conference play when they travel to Citrus College Tuesday, August 31st. The game will kickoff at 4pm.
