Chargers Defeat Saddleback, Complete Season Sweep with 8-1 Victory
Cypress Shines in All Facets to Secure Another Conference Win
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers continued their strong season with an impressive 8-1 victory over the defending state champion Saddleback Bobcats, completing the season sweep and improving to a stellar 16-5 record.
The Chargers wasted no time setting the tone, jumping on the scoreboard early with a two-run single from catcher Zach Anderson in the bottom of the first inning. Cypress kept the pressure on, adding single runs in the second, third, and fifth innings to extend their lead to 5-1 by the end of the fifth frame.
Starting pitcher Luke Wobrock delivered another solid performance, allowing just one run over four innings. He received key defensive support in the third inning, where the Chargers turned in a pair of spectacular plays. A perfect relay from left field to third base to home cut down a potential Saddleback run, while center fielder Ty Peters gunned down a runner attempting to advance to third on a deep double into the left-field corner. These crucial plays kept the Bobcats in check and prevented any further damage.
Cypress added three insurance runs in the eighth inning, capped by a clutch two-run single from Luke Matlock, sealing the victory. Meanwhile, the Chargers' bullpen was dominant, holding Saddleback scoreless over the final five innings while allowing just one hit. Reliever Jayson Thomas earned the win, pitching three shutout innings, striking out five, and surrendering only a single hit.
With this commanding win, Cypress continues its strong start to March, improving to 5-1 for the month.
