Chargers Walk It Off (Again) to Punch Ticket to State Tournament
Cypress wins thrilling series over Palomar, 2-1
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College Chargers are heading to the 3C2A State Tournament after a thrilling 6-5 walk-off win over Palomar College in Game 3 of the 3C2A Southern California Regional Finals.
In a tense 10-inning showdown, the Chargers punched their ticket to the state stage behind Evan Rolbiecki's second home run of the game—a towering solo shot to left that sent the home crowd into a frenzy.
Palomar came out hot, jumping to a 5-1 lead by the fifth inning thanks to timely hits and early patience at the plate. But as they've done all series, Cypress mounted a relentless comeback. Rolbiecki sparked the rally with a two-run homer in the fifth, and Dustin Robinson followed with an RBI double in the sixth to cut the deficit to one.
Down 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Zach Anderson came through in the clutch with a game-tying solo home run to force extras. Andrew Banda, who earned the win, kept the Chargers alive with four scoreless innings in relief, setting the stage for Rolbiecki's walk-off heroics in the 10th.
Cypress outhit Palomar 16-6 in the win, with three-hit games from Rolbiecki, Anderson, and Bradley Navarro. It was the Chargers' second walk-off of the series and a fitting finish to a hard-fought three-game battle.
