Cypress Baseball Explodes for 14 Runs in Victory Over Glendale
Matlock's Five RBIs Lead Chargers to High-Scoring Win
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers continued their strong start to the season with a dominant offensive performance, defeating the Glendale Vaqueros 14-8 on Thursday afternoon.
The Chargers (9-2) wasted no time getting on the board as Luke Matlock launched a three-run home run in the first inning to give Cypress an early lead. Glendale (7-6-1) responded with three runs in the second and took a 5-3 lead after scoring in both the third and fourth innings.
However, Cypress answered in a big way in the bottom of the fourth. Evan Rolbiecki homered to cut the deficit to one, and the Chargers capitalized on timely hitting and Glendale mistakes to explode for six runs in the inning. Travis Curry and Bradley Navarro each drove in runs before a wild pitch allowed another to score. Dustin Robinson capped the rally with an RBI groundout, putting Cypress up 9-5.
The Chargers continued their offensive onslaught in the fifth, adding three more runs. Braden Ruiz delivered a clutch two-run double to push the lead to 12-5. Meanwhile, the Cypress pitching staff settled in after a rocky start. Jayson Thomas earned the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out two.
Glendale attempted a late rally, scoring two runs in the ninth, but Cypress had already built an insurmountable lead. Matlock, who had a standout performance, doubled in the eighth to bring in two more runs, finishing the day 3-for-3 with five RBIs.
The Chargers tallied 11 hits in the victory, matching Glendale's total, but took advantage of Glendale's defensive miscues and pitching struggles. Ruiz finished with three RBIs, while Rolbiecki, Curry, and Navarro each drove in key runs.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will host West LA College on Saturday, February 22nd. Cypress will take the mound at 12:00pm.
