Chargers Hit the Road for Super Regional at Riverside College Beginning Friday

RIVERSIDE, CA- The #11 Cypress Chargers upset the #6 Mt. SAC Mounties in round one of the CCCAA playoffs. Cypress will face a familiar foe in the #3 Riverside City Tigers in the CCCAA Super Regional this weekend. The Chargers and Tigers will play a best-of-three series hosted by Riverside beginning on May 13th at 2pm.

The Cypress bats stayed hot and lifted the Chargers in a win-or-go-home game 3 on Saturday, May 7th. The Chargers played 18 high-pressure innings on Saturday and capped it off with 12 runs in the final three innings to win 15-9.

The Tigers and Chargers faced-off in the final regular season series of the year on April 26-29. Riverside was able to get the best of the Chargers as they swept the series 3-0. Cypress led in each of the three games in the 6th inning or later, so the bullpen will look to sure up their woes entering the playoff series. Historically, Cypress holds a (69-57-1) over Riverside as these Orange Empire Conference opponents have gone back and forth over the last several years.

Cypress continues to lead the state in home runs (54) while ranking 13th in team batting average (.317). Riverside on the other hand is 13th in team ERA (4.11) and 6th in runs allowed (198). Riverside will lean on outfielder, Matthew Bardowell, who leads the state in doubles (21) and is second in batting average (.450) while leading Riverside in RBI (53). The Tigers will have to find an answer for the three H's in the Cypress lineup (Hacopian, Honikel, and Harris) as they all boast an on base percentage over (.443). Dean Toigo has swung a strong bat over the last several weeks as he launched a grand slam in the rubber match versus the Mounties. (Watch here)

The best-of-three series will all be played at Riverside College beginning on Friday, May 13th at 2pm. Game two will be played on Saturday, May 14th at 1pm and game 3 (*if necessary) will be played on Sunday at 12pm.
