Tostado Comes Up Clutch as Chargers Take Series Over Lasers

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Chargers baseball (15-13, 7-5 OEC) hosted the Irvine Valley Lasers (14-15, 3-9 OEC) in a rubber match on Saturday afternoon. Late inning heroics by Mario Tostado propelled the Chargers to a series winning 8-7 victory. 

Mario Tostado (2-for-3) led Cypress with 2 RBI's and a home run. Eddie Hacopian (1 RBI), Luke Honikel (2B) and Ryan White (1 RBI) also notched 2 hits a piece as the Charges and Lasers each totaled 11 hits in the game. Nick Bautista (5.0 IP) got the start on the mound striking out 6 batters while allowing 2 earned runs. Weston Millis (1.1 IP) and Logan Groff (2.2, W) both made an appearance out of the pen for Cypress. Connor Tallakson of Irvine Valley led the Lasers with 3 RBI's and 4 hits.

The Chargers and Lasers found themselves in a 2-2 tie after the first inning as both teams were evenly matched through out the game. The Lasers added two more runs in the second inning after Bradley Wilkison stole home with the bases loaded. The Chargers would fight back in the fourth inning as Peter Werth and Dean Toigo singled to get the inning started followed by an Edgar Roslaes walk to load the bases with 0 outs. The Chargers would go on to score 4 runs on 3 hits in the inning.

Eddie Hacopian would add one run in the bottom of 6th scoring on a wild pitch to put Cypress ahead 7-4. Irvine Valley would not go down easy as matched Cypress' 7 runs with 1 run in the seventh and 2 in the eighth to tie the game up off a single from Shane Kary. As the bottom of eighth rolled around, Mario Tostado led off the bottom of the eighth with an opposite field blast to right field to put Cypress up 8-7. Logan Groff would retire all three hitters in the top of the ninth, sealing the three game series for Cypress. 

UP NEXT: Cypress travels to Orange Coast on Tuesday, April 5th to begin their three game series. First pitch will be at 2pm.
