Hacopian, Honikel and Harris Earn First Team on All-OEC Roster

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Chargers baseball was well represented on the All-OEC roster as they saw seven of their players selected to All-Conference honors. Eddie Hacopian, Luke Honikel and Brenden Harris were named to the first team, while Nick Baustista, Logan Groff, Noah Karliner and Dean Toigo were named to the second team. 

Eddie Hacopian got the high powered Cypress offense started all season as batted in the lead-off spot and played second base. Eddie finished the regular season with an average of (.413) which ranks 7th all-time in Cypress history. Hacopian also finished with an on base percentage of (.474) and an impressive 20-game hit streak in the middle of the season. The second baseman swiped 11 bases and drove in 20 runs to add to his stellar year. 

Brenden Harris was a power bat for Cypress with a slugging percentage of (.708) while also leading the team in batting average (.434). Harris' batting average ranks second all-time just behind Stephen Kaupang (.438). The designated hitter launched 7 home runs to go along with his 24 RBIs and a (.500) on base percentage. Brenden's game of the year came on March 24th against Saddleback College where he went 4-for-5 with a HR and 4 RBIs in a 17-13 victory. 

Luke Honikel batted second for Cypress and played center field. The lefty slashed an average of (.342) with 23 RBI and 30 runs scored. Honikel stole 8 bases and finished with an on base percentage of (.432). Honikel's best game came on April 23rd where he went 4-for-5 with a HR and 3 runs scored. Luke also had a 16-game hitting streak during his 2022 campaign and 15 multi-hit games during the season. 

The All-OEC second team was headlined by the conference leader in home runs, Noah Karliner (9). Karliner played first base for Cypress while batting (.310) and driving in 30 runs. Dean Toigo was a solid outfielder and bat for Cypress through out the season. He drove in 27 RBIs and scored 33 runs. Toigo earned Charger of the Week this season after his series performance against Fullerton where he launched 2 home runs including a grand slam. 

Freshman pitcher, Logan Groff finished the season leading Cypress with a 4.11 ERA. Groff was a relief pitcher who struck out 32 batters over his 30.2 innings. Logan was the most steady arm out of the pen for the Chargers as threw 7 scoreless innings through a 5-game span. Nick Baustista is a hard-throwing freshman from Esteban Torres HS. Bautista hit 95mph regularly as he lead the Chargers in strikeouts with 69, ranking 4th in the OEC. Bautista allowed 31 ER over his 54.2 innings pitched.

UP NEXT: Cypress will begin postseason play on Friday, May 6th, when they travel to Mt. San Antonio College. The three-game series will begin at 1pm.
