Cypress, CA -- Andrew Alhadeff (pronounced Al-Had-If) was officially announced as the new head men's basketball coach at a press conference held at Cypress College on Wednesday. He becomes only the 4th head coach in the storied 48-year existence of the program. 

In his remarks Alhadeff emphasized that "in order to develop a successful program we must plan to win, we must prepare to win, and we must expect to win." He also pointed out his desire to "restore the winning tradition" that former legendary head men's basketball coach Don Johnson left with the program. 

Alhadeff takes the helm of a Charger basketball team that finished sixth of seven in OEC conference play this last season with a record of 2-10 and 7-20 overall last year. The men's basketball team has also failed to make the CCCAA playoffs in each of the last two years. 

Coach Alhadeff comes to Cypress from fellow OEC member Irvine Valley College, where he served as an assistant coach for the last eight years. In his time at Irvine, the team compiled a record of 169-73, which included back-to-back trips to the State "Elite 8" in 2009-10 and 2010-11. Irvine Valley College was also ranked #1 in the State for the first time in school history during the 2013-14 season.

During Coach Alhadeff's tenure at Irvine Valley College, he assisted in moving 38 players on to receive scholarships at the four-year level, with 16 of those players receiving Division 1 scholarships. Coach Alhadeff helped to develop 26 All-Conference players, as well as an All-State player (Travis Fulton, 2011). 

Coach Alhadeff played college basketball for the University of Redlands.  During his time at Redlands, Alhadeff was a four-year starter and captained the most prolific scoring team in basketball history, when they averaged 132.4 points per game in 2004-05. As point guard, Alhadeff finished fourth all-time in assists and led the SCIAC in assists in 2004 and assists/turnover ratio in 2004 and 2005. He also holds the only recorded triple-double (14 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) in Redlands school history in their 154-153 win over Chapman University.

Alhadeff earned his Bachelors of Art in Sociology from the University of Redlands (2005) and his Masters of Science in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University (2009). Coach Alhadeff is married to Lindsay Alhadeff and they have one son, Jason (age 2).
