Cypress Charges Into State Semifinals With Commanding Win Over Chaffey
CYPRESS, CA – The No. 1 Cypress Chargers Women's Soccer team punched their ticket to the State Tournament with a commanding 3-1 victory over the No. 5 Chaffey Panthers in the final round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals. This win marks the Chargers' eighth consecutive triumph and secures their place in the state semifinals, where they will face No. 4 San Francisco City College. The State Tournament will take place at American River College in Sacramento from December 6-8.
Fresh off a dominant 2-0 victory against Santa Monica College, the Chargers carried their momentum into this match, striking early and often. Itzel Ramirez set the tone just four minutes in, dribbling past a defender and delivering a precise cross to Gritsey Ramirez, who finished with a clinical strike to give Cypress a 1-0 lead. The Chargers doubled their advantage just before halftime when Itzel Ramirez capitalized on a rebound off the post from Gritsey's shot. The Chargers controlled the first half, outshooting Chaffey 7-0 and dictating the pace of play.
Chaffey responded in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2-1 just two minutes after the restart. Despite the brief momentum shift, Cypress maintained their composure.
Late in the match, Itzel Ramirez was fouled in the box, earning a penalty kick. Megan Alcantara confidently stepped up and converted from the spot, sealing the 3-1 victory and the Chargers' spot in the state semifinals.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will look to continue their playoff dominance when they travel to Sacramento to face San Francisco City College in the state semifinals on Friday, December 6, at American River College. Chargers take the pitch at 4:00 pm.
