Chargers Tie Orange Coast at Home

By Robert Nilsen

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (7-1-2, 4-0-1 OEC) tied Orange Coast College (6-3-2, 3-2-1 OEC) 1-1 at home on Friday.

The game began with Orange Coast controlling possession in the midfield. Despite having less possession the Chargers had the best opportunity in the nineteenth minute, but freshman midfielder Cynthia Iniguez fired her shot just wide of the net. A couple of minutes later Orange Coast had a good opportunity off of a corner but a Charger's defender was able to clear the ball before it crossed the goal line. The Pirates continued to attack and ultimately opened up the scoring when Sydnee Busby found the back of the net on an assist from Shelle Zito. The Chargers went into halftime trailing 1-0.

The second half began with the Chargers struggling to gain possession of the ball. Orange Coast turned the ball over and Cypress counterattacked down the wing. Cypress freshman defender Marissa Gulley was able to score the equalizer when she crossed the ball into the box and it went untouched into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 (53:14). Following the goal both Orange Coast and the Chargers began attacking hard to find a game winner. Orange Coast took control of the game late as they ended up with more attacking opportunities. The Chargers defense was able to hold off Orange Coast's attack as they came away with a 1-1 draw.
