Chargers Fall Short to Bobcats, 19-9

CYPRESS, CA -Cypress men's water polo (8-5, 1-2 OEC) hosted the Saddleback Bobcats (11-1, 3-0 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference match. Both teams came out aggressively, though the Chargers fell short to the Bobcats, 19-9.

Sophomore, John "Howie" Zeff (4 goals) scored the first goal of the match off of the assist from Diego Roman (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 steal). The Chargers and Bobcats battled back-and-forth, though Saddleback pulled away and led the first quarter 7-2. The Chargers gave their best effort to bring back the momentum in the second quarter with back-to-back goals. However, the first quarter deficit held Cypress from a comeback and the Bobcats kept the offensive pressure to win the match, 19-9.

Head Coach, Mark Canner added, "Saddleback is one of the top teams in Southern California and I'm proud of Ethan Landaverde, Martin Gonzalez, Kyle Ayers, and Nathan Napohaku who stepped into extra minutes due to injuries. Our program is in the process of development and I've witnessed clear progress since day one."

UP NEXT: Cypress will compete at Orange Coast College on Wednesday, October 12th at 4:00PM.
