Chargers Jolt the Competition

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College Men's Water Polo opened their season with a 4-0 victory at the Charger Invitational.

The Chargers went 4-0 on the weekend beating Chaffey, Santa Monica, top ranked San Diego Mesa and Crafton hills with match results of  21-9, 14-8, 18-7, and 26-13. The Men's water polo team is led by elite goaltending from Otto Nash (Los Alamitos High School), Ognjen Čerkez (Serbia), captain Aydann Hambruch (Huntington Beach High School) and Sawyer Nerig (Los Alamitos High School). The team is poised to try and earn their first playoff berth in program history and some notable names to look out for this season are Brandon Rubio (Los Alamitos HS) and John (Howie) Zeff. 

Men's and Women's Water Polo Head Coach Mark Canner said in his quote after the weekend, "it was an amazing weekend, not only to host some of the top college teams in the state but also to watch 21 new freshmen enjoy finding so much success with our program". Coach Mark is thrilled to have many returning players and new athletes to work with. "Our success will be from our commitment to our system and the joy of working hard every day," Head Coach Mark added.

UP NEXT: The Chargers are on the road to West Valley College this Friday, September 9th to continue non-conference play. Match begins at 4:10PM.
