Men's Tennis Earns #2 Spot in Final ITA Rankings
TEMPE, AZ - The Final men’s tennis rankings for the CCCAA/ITA were released on May 31st by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
TEMPE, AZ - The final men's tennis rankings for the CCCAA/ITA were released on May 31st by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Cypress College Men's Tennis Team finished ranked #2 in the State of California, marking its highest final ranking ever.
Maximilien Blancaneaux finished the season as the highest ranked Charger in the state singles ranking, landing at the #2 spot after a stellar season for Cypress College. Blancaneaux and his doubles partner Vincent Reynaud, finished the season ranked #3 in doubles. Reynaud was a State Finalist finished the season ranked #4 in the state. Both Blancaneaux and Reynaud had remarkable seasons for Cypress College will go out as All-Americans in both singles and doubles. The Chargers' third All-American selection is Thomas Kyle, who finished ranked #8 as a singles player. Kyle and partner Ingmar Remmerswaal finished the season at #6 in the doubles ranking, just narrowly missing All-American status.
Yubo Chen came in at #33, Petrus Botha at #36, Ingmar Remmerswaal at #39 and Gertjan De Wilder at #41. In doubles Nicholas Turner and Gertjan De Wilder who made it to the quarterfinals of the State Championships finished ranked #15 as a team.
"Overall, a great year for the Chargers Men's Tennis Team. I could not be more proud of each and every single one of these guys who really contributed to the entire team's success. Our sophomores are finalizing the schools they are transferring to and our freshman are going to keep working hard this summer. We've got a good incoming recruiting class that will keep us at the top tier of CCCAA tennis. I'm excited for next season and extremely pleased with this one. I'll miss the guys leaving, but I am extremely grateful and I'm excited for the returners to see how much more we can improve. LET'S GO CHARGERS," said Head Coach Jeff Benito.
