Mission Viejo, CA - The Cypress College Men's Tennis Team bounced back from a tough loss to #2 Cerritos College with an 8-1 win over #7 Saddleback College.
In doubles the Chargers swept all matches taking a 3-0 lead. Thomas Kyle and his partner Ingmar Remmerswaal got Cypress on the board quickly with their 8-2 win at number 3 doubles. After falling behind 3-0 at number two doubles, Yubo Chen and Gertjan De Wilder stormed back to win 8 games in a row to win their match 8-3. The number one doubles team of Maximilien Blancaneaux and Vincent Reynaud had the toughest match of the day coming from behind late in the match to secure the sweep of doubles for the Chargers.
In singles Cypress took care of business quickly. Freshman Ingmar Remmerswaal scored the 4th point for Cypress with his 6-2, 6-2 victory at number 4 singles. Yubo Chen clinched the match for the Chargers with his 6-3, 6-0 win at number 3 singles. Playing #2 singles Thomas Kyle had to come from down 2-5 to win his match against a tough opponent 7-5, 6-1. At #5 and #6 singles the Chargers had to go the distance playing into the third set tie-breaker but both took home victories for Cypress. At number 5 singles Gertjan De Wilder lost an early lead in the first set and fought back to win his match 10-3 in the third. At number six singles Nicholas Turner dropped a close second set and won the match also in the third set tie-breaker 11-9.
Cypress College will host #7 Mesa Community College of the NJCAA out of Arizona on Thursday, March 30. Match will be at 2:00pm.
