CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College Men's Tennis team, currently ranked No. 3 in Southern California dismantled No. 4 Ventura College 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Cypress College Tennis Center.
The Chargers played their first Community College match of the year against the No. 4 Ventura College Pirates. Cypress got out to a quick start in doubles taking 2 of the 3 doubles points. Sophomores Maximilien Blancaneaux and Vincent Reynaud got Cypress on the board quickly handling their opponents. Yubo Chen and Thomas Kyle quickly followed up with their point to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. Cypress looked to have #2 doubles secured but Ventura mounted a fierce comeback to salvage the point and avoided the sweep in doubles.
In singles it was all Cypress as the Chargers swept the Pirates. Thomas Kyle and Maximilien Blancaneaux got Cypress on the board quickly again with their straight set victories. Freshman Petrus Botha clinched the match for the Chargers with his win at #5 singles. Yubo Chen and Gertjan De Wilder followed suit by taking care of their opponents in hard fought matches. Sophomore Vincent Reynaud maintained the singles sweep by dispatching of his opponent in the third set match tie-breaker.
The Chargers will travel to Glendale College on Friday, February 17 before opening up conference play next week when they host currently undefeated Orange Coast College.
