COSTA MESA, CA - Cypress College Men's Tennis traveled to Costa Mesa this past weekend to take on NCAA Division II Concorida University Irvine. The Chargers played a great match but were edged out, 4-5.
In doubles, the Eagles struck first downing the Chargers' #2 team quickly to grab a 1-0 lead. Freshman Ingmar Remmerswaal and Gertjan De Wilder for the second week in a row scored the first point for the Chargers with their great win at #3 doubles, defeating their opponents 9-7. Sophomore's Maximilien Blancaneaux and Vincent Reynaud capped off the second point for Cypress with their win at #1 doubles defeating their opponents 8-5.
With a 2-1 lead the Chargers were battling tough with the Eagles. Freshman Yubo Chen and Sophomore Vincent Reynaud scored for the Chargers with their straight set victories, but Cypress fell in the other matches giving the Eagles a 5-4 win.
"Overall I liked how we competed. We are overall a young team and are putting a lot of things together. This was a good match for us that showed us what we need to work on and I like how our guys fought until the end on every court," said Coach Jeff Benito.
Cypress will host NAIA Opponent Hope International University in their first home match of the season on Thursday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m.
