Chargers Drop to the Fullerton Hornets, 60-89

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress men's basketball (13-8, 6-3 OEC) with a tough loss against the Fullerton Hornets (22-1, 11-0 OEC), 60-89.

The game started slow, with Fullerton up by only two points three minutes into the game. Cristian Butler got the Chargers on the scoreboard with a 3-point shot at 16 minutes. Blake Ballard quickly followed the three with a dagger to make the game 6-8. Fullerton got into a scoring rhythm after that, and quickly pulled away, with a score of 18-38 at 4:28 left in the first frame. Mark Onyejekwe made a crucial bucket to keep the Chargers in the game before half. The first half ended with a score of 21-50, Fullerton. 

Grant Sii started the second half off with a windmill layup in an attempt to get some momentum for Cypress, but the Hornets answered quickly with back-to-back threes. Fullerton kept the momentum with a thirty-point lead for the entirety of the second half, with multiple Chargers in foul trouble. Gabriel Blinkenberg made two free throws to end the game, with a final score of 60-89. 

Blake Ballard led the Chargers in points with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Allen Wright had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Grant Sii had 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. 

 

UP NEXT: Cypress will be on the road for their next matchup versus Saddleback. The game will take place on Wednesday, February 1st. Tip-off will be at 5pm.
