Strong Second Half Leads Chargers to Win, 70-49
The Cypress men’s basketball team (3-2) defeated Southwestern College (2-3) in their first home game of the season, 70-49.
CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress men's basketball team (3-2) defeated Southwestern College (2-3) in their first home game of the season, 70-49.
The Chargers were led tonight by their returners; Ramiah Adedigba finished with 16 points while Tommie Flanagan had 11 points, four steals and four rebounds off the bench. Grant Sii finished with 10 points and three assists, while Felix Reeves added eight points and four assists of his own. The Jaguars were led by Shawn Sanderlin with 16 points and five rebounds. The Chargers shot 83% from the free throw line going 19 for 23.
It was the Jaguars who opened the scoring for the night on a three-pointer from Shawn Sanderlin. The Chargers were quick to respond and traded points with the Jaguars as the first half got underway. Sloppy play from both sides kept the score close, but two free throws from Felix Reeves gave the Chargers a six point lead with four minutes left in the half. A timeout from Southwestern helped bring the score back within one possession but the Chargers would finish the half with a 25-22 lead.
The Chargers picked up the defensive intensity in the second half, helping them build on their early lead. A three from Cade Flowers gave Cypress a ten point lead, 37-27, three minutes into the half. A steal and fast break lay-up by Tommie Flanagan capped a 7-2 run which increased the Charger lead to 15 and led to a Jaguar timeout. The timeout would not be enough to slow the Chargers and a steal by Felix Reeves set up another fast break lay-up for Ramiah Adedigba, giving them a 20 point lead. The Chargers would go on to win, 70-49.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will hit the road this weekend as they travel to take on Cerro Coso College. Tip-off will be at 5pm.
