CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers men's basketball team (16-12, 8-8 OEC) will travel for round one of the CCCAA playoffs on Tuesday, March 1, to Palomer College to take on the Comets (18-10). #19 Cypress and #14 Palomar will face off for a chance to advance to round two against #3 San Bernardino College on Thursday, March 3rd. The Chargers and Comets will tip-off at 7pm.
Cypress will make their fourth playoff appearance since 2016, seeking their first playoff win since 1997. Coach Alhadeff has turned around the Cypress basketball program as they have competed in the playoffs in four of his first seven seasons. Palomar and Cypress have faced off four times in men's basketball with each team winning two games. The teams last played in 2006 where Cypress came up short 79-87.
The Chargers lead Palomar in points per game (74.2 to 71.8), three-point percentage (32.8% to 31.2%), free throw percentage (72.3% to 68.3%), rebounds per game (36.1 to 32.7) and assists per game (13.3 to 11.1). The Comets shoot slightly better from the field (42.7% to 42.5%). Palomar plays very well in their home arena where they boast an incredible 11-3 record. Palomar finished second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and the Chargers finished sixth place in the more challenging Orange Empire Conference.
