Charger's beat Santa Ana in thrilling OT Victory

SANTA ANA, CA - The Cypress men's basketball team captured a thrilling overtime win against the Santa Ana Dons (6-11, 1-4 OEC) on Monday Night. The 63-62 win was the Charger's second OEC win of the year to push their record to (11-7, 2-4 OEC).

The back and forth game came down to the wire when Sebastian Castro found himself with the ball in his hands with 11 seconds to play in regulation. The freshman knocked down a clutch three-pointer with three seconds remaining on the clock to send the game to overtime. In the overtime period, the Chargers jumped out to a three-point lead but the Dons fought back. With one minute to go Castro came up clutch again for Cypress hitting a jump shot to put the Chargers up 63-61. After a few tough defensive possessions the Chargers went on to win 63-62 to capture the victory.

Castro came up big for the Chargers scoring 17 points. Sophomore Kameron Barnes also had a huge night crashing the glass for 13 rebounds and adding 17 points of his own. Cypress won the rebound battle 44 to 35, which was a key in propelling them to victory.

UP NEXT: The Charger's will head home to host Irvine Valley (12-5, 2-3 OEC) in a crucial matchup for the OEC standings. Tipoff is at 7PM at Don Johnson Court.
