Cypress Baseball Advances to Super Regionals in the 3C2A Playoffs

CYPRESS, CA- Charger baseball (27-13) will move on to the Super Regionals after the team took the series from Cerro Coso (23-17) in the First Round on Saturday afternoon, 11-0. 

Though the entire series was hosted at Cypress College, the Chargers were listed as the away team for the second game. The host team immediately made an impact as Luke Honikel doubled to start the game. A sacrifice bunt and RBI fly out would bring in the first run of the game. 

In the top of the second, Edgar Rosales rocketed a blast to left field for a solo home run that extended the Cypress lead, 2-0. The host team would continue to pile on the runs with three in the third. With runners in scoring position, Nick Mascaro singled in two which doubled the lead. Honikel tallied another RBI as he hit a sacrifice fly out to cap the third inning scoring, 5-0. 

The Chargers would add a sixth run in the fifth frame from yet another sacrifice fly out from Rosales. Cypress created trouble for Cerro Coso in the sixth as the team scored three runs. A bases loaded single from Aaron Perez gave the first baseman two RBI. The host team went up by double-digits in the seventh off of a Jack Burke single. In their final offensive opportunity, Ryan White smacked a solo home run to finish the scoring, 11-0. 

Cypress finished off the double-digit shutout victory to win the series 2-0. Leadoff hitter Honikel continued his impressive performance as he went 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Mascaro was responsible for four runs as he knocked in three RBI off of his 2-5 day. Trey Seeley set the tone with his incredible six frames pitched, eight strikeouts and did not allow a single run to cross. Andrew Dusablon, Jack Pavlovsky and Cesar Ortiz each came in for an inning of relief. With the big win, the Chargers will advance to the Super Regionals in the 3C2A playoff bracket.
