Five Chargers Earn All-Conference Selections

CYPRESS, CA – The Orange Empire Conference has released the All-Conference teams for the 2023 baseball season. Cypress has five selections; Luke Honikel, Dean Toigo and Josh Landry being named to the First Team while Aaron Perez and Isaac Rodriguez have been named to the Second Team.


Luke Honikel- OF

As leadoff hitter for most the year, Honikel found himself in the middle of the action very frequently. The outfielder set the tempo for the offense in many games with his strong bat. Honikel finished near the top of the conference with his .385 batting average. He also landed near the top of most offensive statistics amongst the Chargers. Honikel was first on the team with his 35 hits, nine doubles, 23 RBI and his 15 walks. This is his second consecutive year earning First Team All-OEC honors.


Dean Toigo- OF

The primary right fielder swung a powerful bat all season long. At the cleanup spot, Toigo was consistently clutch with key swings to keep the Chargers competing during close games. He finished at the top of the conference home run leaderboards with his 11 long balls. Amongst the Cypress lineup, Toigo landed at the top of the stats with his 22 runs, .659 slugging percentage and second with his 30 hits. This is the second year in a row that he has earned an All-OEC selection award.


Josh Landry- RHP

Pitching the third most innings on the team, Landry was a versatile arm for the Chargers. The left-handed slinger would find himself entering in the middle of important games. Landry's consistent performance landed him third in the conference with his 2.79 ERA. He led the Cypress pitching staff with his four wins and second on the leaderboard with 21 strikeouts.


Aaron Perez- 1B

The first baseman was a shutdown corner infielder for the Chargers all season-long. Perez's inning and game saving picks at first kept the team in it during tense matchups. He accumulated many impressive offensive stats at the plate as well. Perez ended the season with three home runs, 14 RBI and eight total extra base hits. His bat and glove helped Cypress earn home field advantage into the 3C2A playoff bracket.


Isaac Rodriguez- INF

Up the middle at shortstop, Rodriguez made incredible plays for the Chargers defense throughout the season. He racked up quality offensive numbers to help Cypress in their playoff push. The shortstop tallied 12 extra base hits, ten RBI and two home runs. Rodriguez also stole two bags, scored 25 times and reached from ten walks.


UP NEXT: Cypress will host the Cerro Coso Coyotes in the first round of the 3C2A Southern California Regionals. The first game of the series will be played on Friday, May 5th at 2pm. Per 3C2A regulations, Admission will be $12 general, $8 for children under 12 and seniors 55+ (All Sports Season Passes are not accepted for playoffs).
