Chargers Suffer First Loss of the Season

CYPRESS, CA- Chargers (1-1, 0-0 OEC) take their first loss of the season to the El Camino Warriors (2-2, 0-0 SSC) on Thursday afternoon, 7-3. 

To start the game, Cypress shut down the Warriors offense in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the frame, the team managed to take the lead. With bases loaded and no outs, Aaron Perez grounded out into a double play as Luke Honikel touched home. Their lead was short lived however, as the visiting El Camino bats rallied for 6 runs in the second. 

Both lineups were quiet until the bottom-half of the sixth inning. The Chargers were able to fill the bases again from a walk and two singles. Nick Mascaro drew a walk that allowed Dean Toigo to score the Chargers third run of the game. Next batter, Isaac Rodriguez exchanged two outs for a run as Perez scored on a double-play. In their last ups, Cypress had an opportunity to put runs on the board. With bases loaded and no outs, the teams last three batters struck out.

Leadoff hitter Honikel was one of two Chargers to have a two hit game. He went 2-3, a run scored and two walks while Albert De La Rosa went 2-4 with a walk. Connor Wylde pitched three innings, allowing 6 runs, 6 hits and striking out four batters. Ben Miltko was on the mound for 2.0 only surrendering one walk and in Tucker Fountain's 2.2 innings he struck out three only giving up one run. Andrew Banda closed out the game with his 1.1 innings with a strikeout. The home team was only able to muster three runs for their first loss of the season. Cypress will be on the road for the first time this season in their next game. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be on the road against Mt. San Antonio. First pitch will be at 4pm.
