CHULA VISTA, CA - Khamis Berneker and Brittany Zavala represented Cypress College beach volleyball at the 2019 CCCAA State Pairs Championship on Friday at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center.
The Chargers' top pair this season entered pool play as the No. 2 seed in the south, having finished second in the SoCal Regional. However, Berneker/Zavala suffered three heartbreaking three-set loses in pool play to cut their run short on Friday, as only the top two teams from each pool advanced to Saturday's bracket play.
Berneker/Zavala opened pool play against the south's No. 10 seed Peterson/Woods (LBCC), followed by a matchup with the south's No. 18 seed Donatucci/Vilasenor (ECC), and finished off pool play against the north's No. 7 seed Carnes/Nagase (FRC).
