LONG BEACH, CA – The Cypress College beach volleyball team (5-5, 1-0 OEC) began their 2017 Orange Empire Conference Title defense during Friday morning's triple-header at Granada Beach.
The Lady Chargers began the day with a big OEC victory over Orange Coast, which was ultimately decided by a thrilling third set tiebreaker in the two's match-up. After losing the second set, Berneker/Leae defeated OCC's Del Barto/Lim 15-11 in the third set to earn the conference opening victory for Cypress, 3-2.
The Chargers followed up their effort with a non-conference 4-1 victory over Mt. SAC and ended the day with a 5-0 loss to highly touted non-conference opponent Long Beach City College.
Beach Volleyball will return to action on the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach next Friday, March 23 in an OEC three-way. Cypress will open the day against host Santa Ana College at 10:00 a.m. followed by a match-up with district rival Fullerton College at noon.
