Charger Student-Athletes Step-Up to Achieve Significant Academic Success

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress College Athletics Department announced on Wednesday that the department's 228 student-athletes posted a 3.02 grade point average (GPA) where nine of the athletic teams achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the Fall 2021 semester.

The Chargers went above and beyond to achieve academic success as 102 athletes earned Dean's List honors, 43 of which also were also named to the President's List during the Fall semester. 23 student-athletes joined a premier group on campus as they finished the semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"I am extremely proud of the effort and dedication our student-athletes continued to show in the classroom this Fall," said Athletic Director, Wes McCurtis. "We have tremendous coaches and staff who constantly emphasize the importance of academics with each of our teams. Our student-athletes showed their commitment, logging over 3,000 study hall hours in Fall 2021 alone. It's great to see everyone's hard work pay off," McCurtis added.

Nine sports programs recorded team GPAs above a 3.0, led by women's tennis (3.344) and men's basketball (3.227). The next highest team GPAs (3.0 or better) were as follows: Women's Swim (3.251), Men's Water Polo (3.175), Women's Basketball (3.172), Men's Golf (3.131), Baseball (3.086), Men's Soccer (3.016) and Men's Swim (3.013).
