Student Athlete Advisory Committee Kicks Off 2021 Season

CYPRESS, CA - The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted their first meeting of the 2021-22 school year led by Head Men's Basketball Coach and Kinesiology Faculty member, Drew Alhadeff, and Athletic Director, Wes McCurtis.

The SAAC is a committee made up of student athletes assembled to provide insight on the student athlete experience and give students athletes a voice within the institution. SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect student athletes' lives. Cypress College SAAC includes two student athletes from each of our fourteen athletic teams.

President, Siriana Gudino, are focused on creating valuable connections between the student athletes and campus faculty and staff. They are working on creating events that will incorprate all athletics teams (in-person or remote) to get to know each other and support one another. Malia Goldsmith was elected into the Secratary role for SAAC for the second year in a row. Malia is focused on getting creating a culture where athletic teams support each other and attend each other's games this season if possible.

The President of the SAAC, Siriana Gudino, is a Freshman from Ceres, CA. She decided to come to Cypress College because of the great coaching and she is a communication major with a career goal of becoming a sports reporter. Siriana feels she can use her skills as a communicator to promote awareness of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and get more people involved. She also feels she can implement new tactics by using her passions of sports and academics to fuel her decisions. Siriana enjoys the sports and outdoors, including volleyball as well as hiking and axe-throwing.

SAAC Secretary Malia Goldsmith

Malia Goldsmith is returning as the secretary for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is hoping to continue her plan to promote togetherness between sports and is also focusing on herself, by developing her skills on the basketball court in the hopes of transferring to a Division 1 school.
