Chargers Win on Second Annual Pride Game

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's soccer (11-3-2, 6-2-1 OEC) won a big game on Pride Game against the Orange Coast Pirates (10-5-2 5-3-1 OEC), 3-1.

For the second consecutive season, Chargers women's soccer held a Pride Game. The event brought the OSA Club, food and performances for the fans. In their first matchup against the Pirates, Cypress traveled to Orange Coast on September 29th and won, 4-0.

The home team jumped ahead early on the scoreboard with a goal at the second minute. On a free kick from outside the box, Celine Gehrig booted the ball on net. A leaping punch from the Pirates goalkeeper kept the ball in play for the charging Cypress offensive. Carisia Raygoza was able to kick the ball to the back of the net for the game's first score. Cypress would hold their one goal lead into halftime, 1-0.

To start the final 45 minutes of play, each side had opportune times to score but was unable to find the net. At the 65th minute, Cypress fouled Orange Coast nearly 30-yards away from their own goal. A long strong boot from a Pirate floated over the head of the Charger keeper to tie the match, 1-1. Ten minutes later, Cypress would respond with a goal to regain the lead. On an assist from Jasmin Martinez, Abigail Morales was able to find the net and put her team up back one, 2-1.

With the clock ticking close to the 88th minute, the Chargers tallied one extra insurance score before the final whistle. Itzel Ramriez sneaked a shot past the diving Pirate keeper to extend the Charger lead. The home team would fend off any further offensive attacks from Orange Coast and finish on top, 3-1.

Raygoza started the scoring for Cypress as she earned a goal in the early minutes of the game off of her three shots. Morales placed three shots on goal and scored once while Ramirez found the net for an unassisted goal. In the net for Cypress, Sofia Lopez saved four Pirates shots to earn the victory.
