Cypress Women’s Soccer Wins 2023 Season Opener on the Road

Cypress Women’s Soccer Wins 2023 Season Opener on the Road

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's soccer started the 2023 season with a win against the Southwestern Jaguars.

Cypress began their year with a 3-0 shutout victory against a Jaguars team who went undefeated and won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference in 2022. The three first half goals were shared amongst newcomers and returning sophmores. Ten minutes into play, returning Charger Abigail Morales found the net with an assist from Chloe Imperiali

Freshman Itzel Ramirez made her impact known in her first appearance as she scored at the 25th minute. The assist on the second goal of the game also came from a freshman, Jasmin Martinez. All-Orange Empire Conference Celine Gehrig tallied the third goal of the game off of freshman Crystal Moreno's first assist on the year.

The Chargers are coming off of a successful 2022 season in which they bypassed the first round of the 3C2A playoffs and escaped the second round. Cypress hosted and defeated Antelope Valley but a loss to the Saddleback Bobcats eliminated the team from the postseason. Saddleback went on to win the 3C2A State Title.

Entering his sixth season as Head Coach for the women's soccer program, Erick Hurtarte is working to climb the OEC standings. The team finished third in the conference in 2022 with five student-athletes moving to the next level. Head Coach Hurtarte saw Presli Dillon, Siri Gudiño, Jasminn Ortiz, Christine Duarte and Alyssa Villalobos advance to four-year universities. With a cast of new faces joining and leaders of the squad returning for their final year, Cypress women's soccer is looking to compete in the 3C2A postseason bracket.

UP NEXT: The Chargers continue their season on the road as they are set to visit Ventura College for the New Balance Community College Showcase. Cypress will compete against Evergreen Valley College at 5:30PM.
