Chargers Split with Palomar in Double Header

Chargers Split with Palomar in Double Header

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress Chargers softball (23-6, 8-3 OEC) split the double-header against the Palomar Comets (28-2, 8-0 PCAC), 0-4 and 3-1.

The Chargers took a small break from their Orange Empire Conference competition to host a double-header against the Palomar Comets. The last time these two teams met was at the 3C2A State Championship game. In May of 2023, Cypress defeated Palomar in a double-header to be crowned 3C2A State Champions.

Game 1

On Saturday, the Comets came out strong early and tallied two in their first opportunity, 0-2. The Chargers struggled offensively as they were held to three hits throughout the game. The Comets scored a third run in the third inning and fourth in the fourth frame, 0-4. Cypress would fall in the first game of the day and be shut out, 0-4.

Game 2

It was a different story for the Chargers bats in the second game of the double-header. Cypress exploded for three runs in the first inning which was enough for the victory. Makayla Motis singled in Julia Doan for an RBI hit and the teams first run on the day, 1-0. Lizbeth Gomez stepped up to the plate next and laced a double in the left center gap to score Motis and extend the lead to two, 2-0. For their fourth hit in the inning, Mikala Jacobsen smacked an RBI hit to cap the runs at three, 3-0. Palomar was able to score a run in the sixth but fell short to the defending 3C2A champions, 3-1.

In the pitching circle, Kaitlyn Reynolds pitched an incredible game as she finished with a complete game and only one run allowed. Motis was a key component to the victory with her 1-3 day, run scored and RBI. Jacobsen was the lone Chargers to have two hits as she went 2-3 with an RBI.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will start a new conference series against the Orange Coast Pirates on Tuesday, April 9th. First pitch from Cypress College will be at 2pm.
