Charger Softball Returns from 3C2A State Championship Title

CYPRESS, CA - Softball is returning after a 2023 season in which they were crowned 3C2A State Champions.

Head Coach Brad Pickler returns at the helm for Cypress softball as his Chargers come off of a championship year. In the 2023 season, Cypress earned their 10th state title under Pickler. The team finished with an overall record of 44-7 and a conference record of 19-2. The Chargers took on Pasadena City for the first round of the 3C2A postseason bracket and won the three game series in the first two meetings. For round two, Cypress defeated the Ventura Pirates 4-0 and then a mercy 8-0 finish to advance in the playoffs.

At the state tournament, Cypress lost to San Mateo to put themselves in the consolation bracket. One more loss and the Chargers would be eliminated from the state tournament. Cypress went on to mercy Folsom Lake 10-1 and win a close one against Mt. San Antonio. In a rematch against San Mateo, the Chargers flipped the script and achieved a mercy on the Bulldogs, 12-4. For a ticket to the final game, Cypress defeated Cerritos 5-1.

In an exciting conclusion to the 3C2A State Tournament, the Chargers faced off against the Palomar Comets for two games. Cypress took the first game by one run, 3-2. The No. 4 Chargers only needed to win one more game against the No. 1 Comets to take home the title. One RBI single from Kaitlyn Reynolds was the difference maker as Cypress won the final game. Held at Mt. San Antonio, the 2023 Cypress Chargers were awarded the State Champion trophy.

Back for another year, many familiar faces will be returning. Responsible for the title game winning RBI hit, Reynolds will be returning to take on more of a pitching role. Mikala Jacobsen is a returning sophomore that looks to make an impact in the middle of the lineup. Lizbeth Gomez will continue to be behind the plate and swing a powerful bat. Ashlynn Ortiz and Jaylene Duarte come back to hold down the infield. Pickler and his team look to have yet another successful 2024 season and work to repeat as 3C2A State Champions.

UP NEXT: Cypress will begin their season at home against East Los Angeles College on Wednesday, January 31st. First pitch will be at 2pm.
