Cypress Hands Fullerton their First Loss in the OEC

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress men's soccer (8-8-4, 6-4-3 OEC) secured a 2-1 victory over the Fullerton Hornets (17-2-2, 10-1-2 OEC).

Cypress men's soccer hosted the Fullerton Hornets at Ray Haas field on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers and the Hornets battled from beginning to end in the rival matchup with each team tied at the end of the first, 1-1. At the 27th minute-mark, the ball came off of one of the Fullerton players and traveled over their keeper which landed in their goal. The Hornets error put the Chargers ahead 1-0 until Fullerton's Cesar Marquez forced the draw before the end of the half, 1-1.

Early in the second half, Cypress found an opportunity to gain the lead when Mikey Serrano attempted to shoot the ball in the box. The whistle was blown and the Hornets were called for a hand ball which gave Cypress the chance at a penalty kick. The Chargers sent David Rezko for the penalty and the power shot was successful for Cypress, 2-1. As the match continued, the Chargers battled to maintain their lead leaving everything they had out on the field. In the final minutes of the game, Fullerton missed their opportunity to tie the match and Cypress gave the Hornets their first loss of the Orange Empire Confrence.
