Chargers Meet Bobcats to Kickoff OEC Competition

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress men's soccer will begin the Orange Empire Conference schedule on the road at Saddleback on Tuesday, September 26th.

The Chargers opened the 2023 season similar to how they began last season, with a tie. At home against San Bernardino Valley, the two teams met for a 1-1 draw to kick off the new year. To follow, was an arduous road schedule that had the team travel for two weeks.

Cypress had dropped four in a row against Citrus, Long Beach, Compton and El Camino. In their final game on the road, the Chargers won their first game of the year against East Los Angeles. The 2-0 shutout versus the Huskies allowed the team to come back home with a victory. In their first home game since the five continuous away matches, the squad won a back-to-back shutout.

At Ray Haas Field, Cypress welcomed Moorpark for one last game before conference play. The Chargers had scored an early goal at the ninth minute mark and kept the score 1-0 till the end.

Cypress finished second in the Orange Empire Conference in the prior season with a 7-3-2 conference record and 10-6-5 overall. For the first time in program history, the men's soccer program hosted a 3C2A playoff match against Cuyamaca. The Chargers lost in double overtime to the Coyotes which ended their season in the first round. With a young new team of almost all freshmen, Head Coach Cristian Rus looks to push his squad further in the 2023 season.

UP NEXT: Cypress will travel to Saddleback for their first conference matchup on Tuesday, September 26th. Kickoff will be at 3pm.
