CYPRESS, CA – Cypress College men's basketball standout, Mike Magee, accepted a full ride scholarship offer from Vanguard University on Friday. Vanguard competes in the NAIA as a member of the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).

"I chose Vanguard because I want to become a better person, spiritually and mentally, along with becoming a better basketball player," said Magee. "Vanguard can do that for me, while giving me the opportunity to help them win a lot of games."

The Long Beach Cabrillo High School alumnus averaged 15.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game over two seasons with the Chargers. Magee used his length and athleticism on both ends of the floor, leading the Chargers in scoring (17.1ppg) his sophomore season, while ranking second on the team in rebounds (6.0rpg) and steals (1.3spg) on his way to a coveted All-Orange Empire Conference First Team selection.

"Coach Drew has really instilled the work ethic and dedication in me that I need to have at the next level," said Magee. "I learned how to dedicate myself to the grind of a season and how to be a better man along the way."

Magee has also excelled in the classroom, as he's set to graduate from Cypress this Spring with two AA Degrees, while maintaining over a 3.0 GPA as a student athlete. He plans to major in psychology at Vanguard, before moving on to get his Masters and Psy. D. to begin a career as a clinical psychologist for young athletes.
