Chargers Win Nailbiter at Copper Mountain, 77-75

JOSHUA TREE, CA – The Cypress College men's basketball team (16-9, 5-4 OEC) picked up a huge road win over Copper Mountain College (13-11, 3-5) on Friday night, 77-75. Sophomore Mike Magee erupted for 30 points on the night, including the Chargers' go-ahead basket with ten seconds remaining, which ultimately won the game for Cypress.

The victory puts the Chargers in position for a run at the postseason, sitting at fourth place in the highly touted Orange Empire Conference with three games to play.

Cypress came out firing to begin the game, quieting the home crowd, going 7-of-11 as a team from beyond the arc in the first half. Sophomore guard Isaac Stell poured in 13 first half points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown. However, a late flurry of Charger fouls would allow the Fighting Cacti to take 22 free throws in the opening half. Allowing Copper Mountain to pull within two points at halftime, 44-42.

The second half was a back and forth affair with four ties and eight lead changes, but a 20-point second half effort from Magee would prove to be enough to lift the Chargers past the Fighting Cacti, 77-75.

Magee finished with a game-high 30 points and 12 rebounds, while Stell added a season-high 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

The Chargers will return to action with two home games this week, beginning with Santa Ana College on Tuesday night, followed by district rival Fullerton College on Thursday's sophomore night. Both games tip-off at 5:00pm in Gym II.
